DEEPA MALIK- BIOGRAPHY

Deepa Malik, an Indian athlete born in Sonipat, Haryana, and lives in
Gurgaon. 


She has made a name in the Paralympics and known as the first Indian to
win a medal in the Paralympics, a silver medal which is the first-ever won
by any Indian in shot put in Summer Paralympics, 2016.




She first tried to participate in the Paralympics in 2012 but due to some
politics, she can’t participate in it but she has received the Arjuna award,
one of the biggest awards in the sports person's life.

  • National record in the shot put javelin throw and discus throw

  • Made Four Limca Adventure Records







Deepa Malik’s father, who has served the nation and support her
daughter to make her nation proud. Deepa Malik’s whole background is
from the army as her father, brother named Vikram Nagpal and her
husband and Bikram Nagpal has truly served our nation by being an army
officer.


She also has 2 daughters- Devika Malik and Ambika Malik and her older
daughter has started to make our country proud by winning medals in
athletics.


BK Nagpal


Deepa Malik’s father is Retd. Colonel BK Nagpal who was an army
officer. He has played a very big supporting role in Deepa Malik’s life.
During her spinal disease, he only was a person to look after her as he
goes to the hospital with her daughter by carrying her on his shoulder and
has to visit the whole hospital for her daughter.




As he was in the army he was always busy with his duties but still, he has
taken care of her daughter. Not only that but he supported her throughout
her life and he became a big reason for her daughter’s success. He
supported her till his death and made her daughter proud of the country.


Bikram Singh Malik


Deepa Malik’s husband's name is Bikram Singh Malik. Her husband is
also an army officer and fought Kargil War when her wife was going for
her surgery and covering the distance from her disease to the wheelchair
but she managed and accepted her reality and fought the challenges. 




Her husband’s role was also very big as he was the only coach of Deepa
Malik who made her ready for every sport she played. He was the only one who made her ready for the Paralympics and made her win a silver medal.


Devika Malik


She is the daughter of Deepa Malik and was born paralyzed on one side
of the body. She is the co-founder of Wheeling Happiness Foundation
who supports disabled persons, provides them with sports equipment and
helps them financially, emotionally and physically problems.


 


Like her mother, she also won 8 national and 3 international medals in
para-athletics. Her upbringing is the only reason of how much she has
achieved. Her mother taught her how to overcome the difficulties that
come in the life of a disabled person and how to live with your abilities
instead of considering and making disability as an excuse.

She was awarded the Queen’s Young Leader Award by Queen Elizabeth
II and had the honour of addressing the Commonwealth Heads of
Government Meeting in front of all 53 Heads of Commonwealth
Countries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at the Opening
Ceremony in 2018. Her identification was also considered as an
entrepreneur by Niti Aayog in 2018.

A True Inspiration- Deepa Malik Deepa Malik is a true inspiration as she has done all the things to inspire every normal person and every disabled person. She has done all the youth from her struggling and inspiring life . She has suffered from 31 operations and her whole life is in a wheelchair, still she has the courage to move forward towards her interests and goals.  She started playing at the age of 36 when other players take the retirement, she started her career because her passion, her anger towards her disabilities can’t make her to live peacefully. She has not even participated only but also won most of the matches. As she is a girl and on the wheelchair, the pressure of society is always there but again she faced all the situations and nature conditions and proved that a paralyzed woman can also won gold for their country. It clearly seems that she has not lived an easy life but made her life easy by herself only. She does not need to become a
DEEPA MALIK: A Big Inspiration Deepa Malik born on 30th Sept. 1970 in Sonipat, Haryana, India but lived in Gurgaon is a sportsperson and a very big inspiration to all youth and physically challenged persons.  In 1999, Deepa Malik suffered a very big disease which affected her throughout her life called as spinal tumor and became paralyzed from her waist down. She had 3 surgeries and got 183 stitches and it made her walking impossible and ultimately she came on the wheelchair. She participated in the paralympics and surprisingly won silver medal and became the first Indian woman to win a medal in paralympics in the shot put. She won her first medal in 2009 but firstly she came into highlight through her swimming talent.  Achievements:     1. National and state levels: 51 Gold, 5 silver, 2 Bronze 2.
